Is 100% Mulberry Silk the Same as 100% Silk?

No, 100% mulberry silk is not the same as just “100% silk.” While all mulberry silk is 100% silk, not all 100% silk is mulberry silk.

“100% silk” is a general term that includes all types of silk, including:

  • Mulberry silk (the highest quality)

  • Wild silk (tussah silk)

  • Eri silk

  • Muga silk

  • Waste silk (made from broken fibers)

Products labeled “100% silk” could be made from any of these types, which vary widely in quality, texture, and durability. Only “100% mulberry silk” guarantees that the fabric is made from the highest quality silk from mulberry-fed silkworms.

Many fake or low-quality products use the “100% silk” label to sell wild silk or waste silk as premium mulberry silk. These products don’t offer the same benefits as mulberry silk, even though they’re technically 100% silk.

When buying wholesale or custom silk products, always look for the “100% mulberry silk” label. This ensures you’re getting the highest quality silk available, not just any type of silk.
